【摘要】:Thehotsalttestasappliedtometalsisutilizedasasecondarydesignconsiderationindicator,ascrackinghasbeenshowntooccurinlaboratorytestssimulatingpossibleserviceconditions.Althoughlimitedevidenceexistslinkingthisphenomenontoactualservicefailures,crackingunderstressinahotsaltenvironmentshouldberecognizedasapotentialdesigncontrollingfactor.Thehotsalttestisnottobemisconstruedasbeingrelatedtothestresscorrosioncrackingofmaterialsinotherenvironments.Itisconsideredsolelyasatestinanenvironmentthatmightbeencounteredinservice.Becausehotsaltcrackingunderstressisconsideredasecondarydesignconsiderationandservicefailureshavenotbeenattributedsolelytothisphenomenon,manufacturingprocesseswillbeoptimizedoralloyingchangeswillbemadeonlyafterconsiderationisgiventoprimarydesignfactorssuchascreepresistanceofagivenhightemperaturealloy.Theusefulnessofthetestliesratherinlimitingmaximumoperatingtemperaturesandstresslevelsorcategorizingdifferentalloysastosusceptibility,orboth,ifitisfoundthathotsaltdamagemayacceleratefailurebycreep,fatigue,orrupture.Finally,thetestdoesnotlenditselftotheutilizationofpre-crackedspecimensbecausecrackingreinitiatesatanysalt-metal-airinterface,resultinggenerallyinmanysmallcrackswhichextendindependently.Forthisreason,specimensthatarerecommendedforutilizationinroutinetestingareofthesmoothspecimencategory.1.1Thispracticecoversproceduresfortestingmetalsforembrittlementandcrackingsusceptibilitywhenexposedunderstresstoahotsaltenvironment.Thispracticecanbeusedfortestingallmetalsforwhichserviceconditionsdictatetheneedforsuchinformation.Thetestproceduresdescribedhereinaregenerallyapplicabletoallmetalalloys;requiredadjustmentsinenvironmentalvariables(temperature,stress)tocharacterizeagivenmaterialssystemshouldbemade.Thispracticedescribestheenvironmentalconditionsanddegreeofcontrolrequired,andsuggestsmeansforobtainingthisdesiredcontrol.1.2Thispracticecanbeusedbothforalloyscreeningfordeterminationofrelativesusceptibilitytoembrittlementandcracking,andforthedeterminationoftime-temperature-stressthresholdlevelsforonsetofembrittlementandcracking.However,certainspecimentypesaremoresuitableforeachofthesetwotypesofcharacterizations.Note1Thispracticerelatessolelytotheperformanceoftheexposuretest.Nodetaileddescriptionconcerningpreparationandanalysisofspecimentypesisoffered.However,theoptimumsampledesignmaybeonethatusesthesametypeofstressencounteredinserviceloadingsituations.Standardsdescribingprincipaltypesofstresscorrosionspecimens,theirpreparation,andanalysis,includePracticesG30,G38,andG39.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.(FormorespecificsafetyhazardstatementsseeSection8.)
