【摘要】:Thechemicalanalysisofbiologicalmaterial,collectedfromsuchlocationsasstreams,rivers,lakes,andoceanscanprovideinformationofenvironmentalsignificance.Thechemicalanalysisofbiologicalmaterialusedintoxicitytestsmaybeusefultobetterinterpretthetoxicologicalresults.Manyaquaticbiologicalsamples,eitherasaresultoftheirsize,ortheirmethodofcollection,areinherentlyheterogeneousinthattheymaycontainoccludedwaterinvaryingandunpredictableamountsandmaycontainforeignobjectsormaterial(forexample,sediment)notordinarilyintendedforanalysis,theinclusionofwhichwouldresultininaccurateanalysis.Standardmethodsforseparatingforeignobjects,tofacilitatehomogenization,willminimizeerrorsduetopoormixingandinclusionofextraneousmaterial.Standardizedproceduresfordryingprovideameansforreportinganalyticalvaluestoacommondryweightbasis,ifdesired.Analysesmayalsobecarriedoutorreportedonawetweightbasis.1.1Thisguidedescribesproceduresforthepreparationoftestsamplescollectedfromsuchlocationsasstreams,rivers,ponds,lakes,estuaries,oceans,andtoxicitytestsandisapplicabletosuchorganismsasplankton,mollusks,fish,andplants.1.2Theproceduresareapplicabletothedeterminationofvolatile,semivolatile,andnonvolatileinorganicconstituentsofbiologicalmaterials.Analysesmaybecarriedoutorreportedoneitheradryorwetbasis.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.Foraspecifichazardstatement,see9.3.3.
